Find the last day to challenge a judgment
When does the period start?
Article 179 of the Law of Sharia Procedure: from delivery of the judgment copy to the party, or from the date set for receiving it if they do not attend, in which case it is deposited in the case file. The Commercial Courts Law (Art 79) and the Board of Grievances procedure law (Art 33) say the same.
How is it counted?
- The triggering day is not counted, and the period ends at the end of its last day (Art 22).
- If the last day is an official holiday, the deadline extends to the next working day (Art 22).
- Periods follow the Umm al-Qura calendar and a day ends at sunset (Art 8).
These rules apply before the commercial courts (Art 93) and the Board of Grievances courts (Art 60) where they have no specific rule.
General, labor and personal-status courts
- Appeal: thirty days; ten in urgent matters (Art 187).
- Cassation: thirty days; fifteen in urgent matters (Art 194).
- Reconsideration: thirty days, starting according to the ground (Arts 200 and 201).
Commercial, administrative and criminal courts
- Commercial appeal: thirty days; ten for jurisdiction rulings and urgent claims (Art 79, Commercial Courts Law).
- Administrative judgments: thirty days, after which the judgment becomes final (Art 33).
- Criminal appeal and cassation: thirty days each (Arts 194 and 199, Law of Criminal Procedure).
If the deadline is missed
The right to object lapses and the judgment becomes final (Art 187). For the limitation period of the claim itself, use the limitation period calculator.
